Car Rentals and driving on Tortola

Getting Around

Tortola is a hilly island, the best way to get around is by vehicle. Most of our guests rent a car and find it easy to drive around. The locals are known for their relaxed approach to driving, rarely rushing or driving aggressively, which enhances the overall ease of travel. This pace allows you to discover Tortola at your own pace.

How is driving on Tortola?

Driving on Tortola is a fun and adventurous experience that rewards you with breathtaking views of the surrounding islands. The island's roads are narrow and winding, featuring sharp turns and frequent elevation changes. As you navigate the ridge road, you'll be treated to stunning vistas of the scattered islands that encircle Tortola.

What car do you need?

You need a Four-wheel drive car because the roads in Tortola are not always in good condition and can be rough in certain areas. The route to Pelican Peak Villa has some harsh curves and elevations. Moreover, the parking at Pelican Peak is gravel. Therefore, it is essential to rent a 4X4 car.

Car Rental at Beef Island Airport

If you're arriving at Beef Island Airport, you have a few options. Firstly, you can contact Jerry's to have a car ready for you (with keys in the car) at the airport. Another option is to rent from one of the three agents based at the airport - Hertz, Avis, or National. However, please note that the three agents may not always provide the vehicle you've booked, so it's crucial to confirm your reservation beforehand. Additionally, it's important to remember that a 4-wheel drive vehicle is essential for driving in Tortola.

Alternatively, you can choose the most relaxing option: to have the rental car delivered by Pelican Peak. Then, you can book a taxi from George to take you and your luggage from the airport to Pelican Peak.

Recommendation for a relaxed arrival at Tortola

When you arrive on Tortola, we recommend letting Taxi George handle your first ride from the port to your villa. Navigating the steep hills as well as left-hand driving after a long journey can be overwhelming, and finding the villa is a challenge. Moreover, worrying about luggage and passenger space in your rental car can add to the stress. So, if it fits your budget, sit back, relax, and let Taxi George provide you with a stress-free first ride to your villa. It's the perfect way to start off your island holiday!
